Dining out
fitting setting for the kitchen’s up-to-date interpretations
of classic Chinese dishes. The wine list is extensive but
possibly not as extensive as the menu, which does seem
to go on a bit – but in a good way. We enjoyed the
Classic Barbecued Peking Duck and there’s every chance
that you will, too.
Big in Marylebone
You can go a long way before coming across a good
Japanese restaurant – yet Marylebone is home to a
pair of stunners in the shape of Defune and Dinings.
Defune is the oldest Japanese restaurant in the
capital and is renowned for some of the best sushi and
sashimi in town. It offers different dining options, from
the traditional sushi counter and conventional dining
room, to the teppanyaki table where your meal is
prepared in front of you on an iron griddle. A separate
dining room is also available for up to 12 guests.
Dinings, however, is small enough to be a private
dining room in its own right. A contemporary Japanese
tapas and sushi restaurant, the food here was originally
based on the traditional izakaya style of cuisine but,
since opening six years ago, Dinings has developed a
new izakaya – Japanese tapas – which combines
traditional Japanese with new European cuisine.
Switching continents again, Zoilo is the recent
offering from the renowned Argentine chef, Diego
Dinings serves Japanese tapas,
